Otis Smith joined the New York Jets in 1995 as a free agent after spending the first five seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Originally entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 1990, Smith went on to appear in 180 games (108 starts) over his 13-year career, where he recorded 523 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 29 interceptions, including seven returned for touchdowns, along with nine forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. He appeared in 46 games (43 starts) across five seasons with the Jets, where he notched 14 interceptions and four pick sixes, which is still tied for the second-most in franchise history. A key contributor in the secondary during the late 1990s, Smith notably played alongside current head coach Aaron Glenn, helping anchor the Jets’ defensive backfield during that era.
