Fred Baxter was selected by the New York Jets in the 5th round (115th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft. Over his 12-year NFL career in which he played for the Jets, Bears, Patriots, and Washington, he appeared in 128 games, recording 1,008 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns, and 100 receptions. Baxter played high school football as a tight end at Pike County in Alabama, where he helped deliver the school a state championship. After a standout career at Pike County, he received a scholarship to play college football as a tight end at Auburn, where he was part of the team that won the SEC Championship in 1989. After retiring from his playing career, he teamed up with other former NFL players to host the Fred Baxter Football camp in his hometown of Brundidge, Alabama, instilling academic excellence in kids who play the game of football. Baxter also spent time as the offensive coordinator and special teams coach for Camden High School in 2009 and the tight ends and special team coach for Camden Catholic High School in 2007, and as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Burlington County College in 2006. Adding to his background in coaching athletics, Baxter served as the Head Golf Coach at Widener University.
